Newsletter - 1st Half Summer Term

16 May 2017

Dear Parents,

Summer term is well underway now, and we are getting really busy! We would like to offer a very warm welcome to Rosie, Robert-James, Opal, Livinia, Freddy, Rafael and their families, who have all recently joined us.

We have started looking at our rainforest topic, and the children seem to be really engaging with this. We will incorporate this topic into our art and craft, role-play and investigative activities, giving the opportunity for the children to learn through play. As our previous e-mail stated, we will also be using this theme for our 'show and tell' time, so please encourage your child to find items relating to the rainforest if they would like to take part. Any items should be placed in the yellow 'show and tell' box in the entrance hall at the start of the session, and can be collected from the box at home time. If you have any questions about this, please ask!

As a special treat, we will be having a visit from 'Zoolab' on Thursday 25th May, who will be teaching the children about the rainforest by bringing some animals with them! We have been able to book this event thanks to your generous support of the Christmas raffle, so thank you to all of you for making this possible – we're sure the children will find it a fun and interesting experience! All pre-school children will be welcome, so if Thursday morning is not your child's normal session, and you would like them to attend, please let us know by e-mail by the end of this week so that we know how many extra children will be present. If this applies to you, please bring your child to pre-school at 10:30, and then collect them at 12:15.

We are also planning to hold a pre-school Sports Day later this term on Thursday 6th July, weather permitting. We will be practicing for this whenever we can, so please make sure that children are wearing suitable footwear for running in! Other events will include an end of term trip on Tuesday 18th July, and a graduation party for children leaving for 'big school' on Wednesday 19th July. Further information on all these events will be given nearer the time.

If you or anyone you know has any Sainsburys Active Kids vouchers, we are still collecting them, even though our collection box went missing a while ago! Please hand any vouchers directly to a member of staff before half-term, so that we can use them for some outdoor equipment for the children – many thanks!

Some important reminders:

Can we please request that payments are made as soon as possible after invoices are received. Reminders will be sent out if payments have been overlooked, but if two payments have been missed after reminders have been sent, we regret that we will not be able to continue to offer your child a place for the following term. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated. Can we also kindly request that children are picked up promptly at the end of their session, as we only have a limited time to tidy up and leave the hall once pre-school is finished. We appreciate that there are times when you may be held up, but if you could phone to let us know on these occasions it would really help us – thank you.

Lunchboxes – we promote a healthy diet at preschool, so please try to provide at least one portion of either fruit or vegetables in your child's lunch, and they will be encouraged to eat this before moving onto items such as crisps or biscuits. If you could cut up fruit or veg that would be very helpful, particularly grapes which are a potential choking hazard. Please do not supply sweets or fizzy drinks in lunchboxes as they will be returned home. We are happy for you to supply a squash or fruit juice drink for your child to have with their lunch, but we will always make sure that water is supplied at lunchtime for any children without a drink.

In line with other settings, we are a nut-free pre-school, so please check labels if you are unsure whether anything contains nuts.

We hope to provide more outdoor messy play, such as sand and water, during the summer term, so please could you make sure that your child always has some spare labelled clothing at pre-school in case they get wet – thank you!

If possible, could you please provide your child with a labelled sun hat for the summer term, which can be left at pre-school in our 'hat box'. We do have some spares, but not enough for everyone. If the weather is sunny, could you also please apply suncream before your child arrives at pre-school – thank you.

Pre-school uniform, including the new hoodies, is available to order via our website, so please take a look if you are thinking of making a purchase!

Thank you for all your continued support,

Becky, Katie, Diane and Siobhan.
